What are Affirmations...
The thing with affirmations is, to make them successful, you`ve got to do them often and you`ve got to believe in them. So, first it might be a good idea for us to talk a little about feelings and thoughts. You can`t have a feeling without a thought. If it`s a bad thought, like you`ve just split up with your partner or you`ve just lost your job, then you might get a bad feeling. (loss). But the fact is, you can control this because, with practice, you can control your mind. You have to learn that your mind does not control you.
You see, life is a series of tiny moments. The past and the future are not reality. There is only NOW. The secret is, you must train your mind to dismiss the bad thought you are having in the NOW and replace it with a good one. And as you do this more often, it becomes easier and soon it will become second nature.
Now, lets move on a step further and discuss the important part positive affirmations can play...
You cannot ignore the fact that in just about every self help book you may read, goals and affirmations, in some guise or another, are always prevalent And so they should be. For goals are your destination. And affirmations, which give you control of your mind, are the way to reach them.
Many of our thoughts, which rule every single moment of our lives, are negative ones, held deep in our subconscious mind which we have learned over time since our childhood. In adulthood, these negative thoughts come to us automatically, whether they are true or not and often hold us back and stop us from achieving much of what is possible in our lives. The purpose of positive affirmations is to change the way we think, to rid ourselves of these automatic negative thoughts and to replace them with positive ones. It will help if you think of the mind as a tool in which you are in control. You control your mind and not the other way round.
If you are in control of your mind it is therefore possible to replace a negative thought with a positive thought. At first you must consciously do this by regularly repeating positive affirmations which in time will sink deep into your subconscious mind and become your natural way of thinking, eventually replacing those old negative thoughts.
What actually happens is this. Because you have trained your mind to think differently, more positively, you begin to discover, to become aware of, and open yourself up to new experiences. You become more confident and you begin to act on those impulses that you ether didn`t realise existed or were once afraid to do so. In effect, you are reprogramming your thought patterns, changing the way you think and feel about things, replacing negative beliefs with positive ones and therefore the change in you becomes easy and natural. This will start to reflect in your external life.
How many times a day and for how long before you get the results you require.... Repetition is key... Ideally two to three times a day for at least one month. But don`t just read (or listen) to your affirmation(s)...
Feel them. Visualise them. Believe them. Imagine you are already experiencing your goal or intention.
